Rosenthal and Braendli Selected WCHA Players of the Week

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State women’s ice hockey forward, Gabby Rosenthal was named this week’s WCHA Forward of the Week while goaltender Andrea Braendli was named the WCHA Goaltender of the Week, conference officials announced Tuesday.

Over the weekend, the Buckeyes earned four points on the road against No. 2 Wisconsin with a win and a draw. Sophomore forward Gabby Rosenthal (Blaine, Minn.) tallied a team-high and league-high three points from the weekend with a goal and two assists. All her points came on the man advantage in the second period of Saturday’s 3-1 win over the Badgers. She assisted on the first two power-play goals and then scored a goal of her own – all within a two-minute span. Rosenthal also had six blocked shots which tied for second on the team for the weekend. This is Rosenthal’s first career conference honor.

Andrea Braendli, a sophomore from Zurich, Switzerland had a league-high 74 saves on the weekend. She posted 36 saves on Saturday to tie her previous season-high and then notched 38 on Sunday to replace her season-best mark altogether. She only allowed two goals against No. 2 Wisconsin, including one power play goal. In Sunday’s OT game, she saved a penalty shot attempt to maintain the Buckeye lead in the second period. Braendli was also named this week’s NCAA Second Star of the Week, conference officials announced Tuesday morning. This is Braendli’s fourth NCAA honor and fifth WCHA Goaltender of the Week honor.

Up next, the Buckeyes host St. Cloud State Feb. 21-22 in their last regular season home series. Senior day festivities will be held prior to Saturday’s contest to honor the team’s four seniors.
