Just like at the French Open, Buckeyes Blaz Rola and Mikael Torpegaard open their run at the All England Club on Monday with a win the first round of qualifying.
Monday was the opening day of the gentleman’s qualifying draw for the Championships Wimbledon. Torpegaard took on Serbia’s Nikola Milojevic and dropped the first set 6-4 He rebounded to take the second set in a tiebreaker 9-7 and then rolled in the third 6-3. He advances to take on No. 30 seed Tommy Paul in the second round.
Rola moved on in similar fashion as he lost the first set to Italian Stefano Travaglia, who is ranked No. 100 in the world. After dropping the first set in a tiebreaker, Rola dominated the second set 6-2 and then closed out the match 6-4 in the third. He will play Daniel Brands in round number two.
