COLUMBUS, Ohio – Izzy Rodriguez, a junior on the Ohio State women’s soccer team, has been named to the 2019 MAC Hermann Trophy watch list, United Soccer Coaches announced Thursday. Rodriguez becomes the fourth Buckeye, and the first since Paige Maxwell in 2011, to be named to the watch list for the award given to the Division I collegiate player of the year.
The 15 semifinalists for the award will be announced Dec. 3 with three finalists announced Dec. 13 and the Hermann Trophy winners announced Jan. 10 at the Hermann Trophy Press Conference and Awards Banquet at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis.
Over her first two seasons, Rodriguez has played in 40 matches, including 39 starts, picking up first team All-Big Ten honors as a sophomore and third team All-Big Ten and Big Ten All-Freshman team laurels in her opening season. A 2018 United Soccer Coaches first team All-North Region selection and 2017 TopDrawerSoccer.com second team Freshman All-American, Rodriguez has earned Big Ten weekly honors three times in her career.
After tallying five assists while starting all 21 matches as a freshman, the Canton, Mich., native appeared in all 19 contests, making 18 starts, as a sophomore after returning from the U-20 Women’s World Cup in France. During her sophomore campaign, Rodriguez tied for the team lead with four goals and tied for third on the team with two assists. Her four goals in conference play tied for fifth in the Big Ten. Rodriguez, a two-time OSU Scholar-Athlete, 2018 Academic All-Big Ten selection and 2019 Big Ten Distinguished Scholar, played the full match 17 times as a sophomore, including a season-high 110 minutes vs. Nebraska, Rutgers and Maryland and in Big Ten quarterfinal vs. Nebraska.
