COLUMBUS, Ohio – Just one day after earning All-Big Ten honors, sophomores Mariah Rodriguez and Sam Hackenbracht added another postseason honor to their respective resumes.

The Buckeye duo was named on Thursday to the NFCA Midwest All-Region second team, the organization announced. NFCA member head coaches from each respective region voted on the teams and all student-athletes now become eligible for the 2021 NFCA Division I All-America squads.

The Buckeyes have had at least one All-Region selection for nine consecutive years (2020 not included as there were no awards given). In the nine-year tenure of head coach Kelly Kovach Schoenly (2013-present), the Buckeyes have produced 25 All-Region honors.

Rodriguez led Ohio State is batting with a .358 average, which was fifth-best in the Big Ten, and had a team-high 17 multi-hit games. A first-team All-Big Ten selection, she improved her batting average by over 150 points from her COVID-shortened freshman season in 2020. Rodriguez also excelled in the field, finishing with a .960 fielding percentage at second base while playing in and starting all 43 games.

Hackenbracht, from Massillon, Ohio, finished second in the Big Ten in both home runs (12) and slugging percentage (.727). A two-time Big Ten Player of the Week, Hackenbracht was third on the Buckeyes with 26 RBI and first in on-base percentage (.444). Hackenbracht’s 12 home runs came in 10 different games and Ohio State was 9-1 in those contests.

The Buckeyes finished 24-19 this season against a Big Ten-only schedule and six of their final eight games, including back to back series wins over Illinois and Michigan State. Ohio State defeated each team on its schedule at least once and won five of the eight weekend series that it played on campus sites.
