COLUMBUS, Ohio – Add first-team 2010 preseason All-America accolades to Ohio State junior catcher Dan Burkhart’s impressive resume of honors and achievements as today named him to its 2010 Preseason All-America Baseball Team.  

Rivals and Yahoo! Sports college baseball editor Kendall Rogers select and release only a first-team list of preseason All-Americans. The select group of 15 players includes seven position players, a designated hitter, a utility player, four starting pitchers and two relievers. Preseason All-Americans

RP – Matty Ott, LSU referred to Burkhart, last year’s Big Ten Conference Player of the Year after hitting .354 with 10 home runs and 62 RBI, as the “heart and soul for the Buckeyes” and “he is solid behind the plate and an excellent hitter.”

Burkhart had previously been named second-team preseason All-America by PING! Baseball and by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association of America.

Ohio State opens its season Friday in Jacksonville, Fla., at the University of North Florida. The team will also play Florida A&M and Richmond at North Florida’s home park, Harmon Stadium over the weekend.
