COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State Rifle team competed against MIT in Cambridge, MA on Sunday for the first time in program history. The Buckeyes fired a team score of 4684 (MIT 4300) led by Derek Keiser’s aggregate score of 1183 which was a match high and new range record at MIT’s DuPont Rifle Range.
In smallbore the team fired a score of 2329 led by Derek Keiser and Viktor Kiss who fired scores of 587 and 584 respectively. They were followed by Nate Wehrlen (580), Paige Hollowell (578), and Lillian Warren (576) who rounded out team scoring. Tyler Hanson and John Hamilton fired as individuals and posted scores of 576 a d 569 respectively. In air rifle the team fired a score of 2355 and were again led by Derek Keiser who equaled his season best with a score of 596. He was followed by Viktor Kiss (593), John Hamilton (583), Paige Hollowell (583), and Lillian Warren (582) who rounded out team scoring. Tyler Hanson (586), and Nate Wehrlen (582) rounded out individual scoring for Ohio State.
Over the course of the match, the Buckeyes fired new MIT range records for aggregate (4684), team smallbore (2329), team air rifle (2355), individual smallbore (Derek Keiser – 587), individual air rifle (Derek Keiser – 596), and individual aggregate (Derek Keiser – 1183).
Coach Tanoue: “Competing at MIT was just a really great experience all around and Sunday will definitely be the start of our team consistently making the trip out to Cambridge. Our focus will now shift to the NCAA Qualifier this coming Saturday and making the push to finish out the season in the best way possible.”
Ohio State will compete alongside Akron and Nebraska at the NCAA Qualifier held at the Hugh W. Wylie Range on Saturday, February 18.
