Final Stats

CHICAGO, Ill. – The No. 10 Ohio State University men’s volleyball team concludes the 2015 regular season with an overall record of 21-8 and 11-5 MIVA mark following a road defeat (28-26, 25-22, 25-17) at No. 5 Loyola (22-2, 14-2 MIVA) in the regular season finale. Ohio State gets postseason play started next Friday (April 24) by hosting a MIVA Tournament Quarterfinal match at 7 p.m. ET inside St. John Arena.

A night after falling victim to 18 blocks from Lewis University, the Buckeyes ran into an 11-ace buzz saw Saturday night in Chicago versus Loyola. The reigning conference player of the year, Thomas Jaeschke, inflicted substantial damage as well with 16 kills to go along with his four aces. Ohio State’s Miles Johnson and Michael Henchy both contributed double-digit points by combining for 17 kills, four aces and four blocks.

All three of Johnson’s aces came in the opening set. He added in four kills as well to pace the Buckeyes with seven points. Driss Guessous had a hot start as well, putting away all four of his attacks for kills. Ohio State held the upper-hand for much of the frame, including a 24-21 advantage following Johnson’s third ace. The Buckeyes were unable to capitalize on three consecutive set points, however, and ultimately fell 28-26.

Set number two was tight as well. Ohio State trimmed its deficit to a pair of points at 19-17 and the Ramblers elected to burn a timeout. The break in action proved beneficial for Loyola, maintaining its edge and winning the set 25-22.

The Ramblers then put the pedal to the metal in the clinching third set. Loyola burst out to a 14-2 lead and eventually closed the door 25-17.
