COLUMBUS, Ohio– Nick Rees (Sr., Nassau, Bahamas/St. Augustin) is the Big Ten Male Swimmer of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday. Rees earns the award for a strong meet against Cleveland State, Nov. 26, where he was a triple-winner in a 130-70 Buckeye victory.
Rees won the 100-yard butterfly (49.80) and was a part of the team’s wins in the 200-yard medley relay (1:34.50) and 200-yard freestyle relay (1:25.19). He now has 11 first-place finishes this season and has not finished below second in a race. His season best of 48.92 in the 100 fly equals the fourth fastest time nationally according to collegeswimming.com.
The 2000 Olympian for the Bahamas is the first Buckeye to be named Swimmer of the Week since Brian Malich on Jan. 30, 2001.
The Ohio State men’s swimming and diving team (6-0) is away from action until Jan. 11 when it faces off against Indiana in the team’s Big Ten opener. The coed meet will be held at 5 p.m. at the Mike Peppe Aquatic Center.
