COLUMBUS, Ohio – After clinching two Big Ten wins for the Ohio State women’s tennis team, freshman Sydni Ratliff was selected the B1G Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday. Ratliff, from Columbus and a Columbus Academy graduate, is now a three-time league player of the week honoree.
Ratliff, ranked 60th in singles, clinched the fourth team point against No. 19 Michigan Friday and Michigan State Sunday to keep Ohio State undefeated in the Big Ten (5-0).
Against the Wolverines, the team score was tied at three-all when Ratliff sealed the victory with a three-set win on court four vs. No. 111 Andrea Cerdan, 7-5, 4-6, 6-4. Against the Spartans, Ratliff and Kathleen Jones won 6-2 on court two in doubles to clinch the doubles point. In singles, Ratliff was a straight-set winner on court four vs. Nicole Stephens, 6-3, 6-1.
Ratliff is 10-6 in dual matches this season and 20-10 overall. She is tied for the team lead with nine dual match doubles victories and has a team-best 21 doubles victories overall.
The Buckeyes have won five Big Ten weekly honors this season, with senior Isabelle Boulais a two-time winner and Ratliff’s three accolades.
Ohio State, 12-4 on the year, will close a three-match homestand at 3 p.m. Friday when it hosts Northwestern. The match is scheduled to be played outside at the Auer Tennis Complex, but will be moved inside the Ty Tucker Tennis Center in the event of inclement weather. Admission and parking are free on match day.
