Freshman opens tournament with 15-consecutive pars en route to a 73

PALOS VERDES, Calif. – The Ohio State women’s golf team opened their spring season Monday with a first round of 300 (+16) at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge in Palos Verdes, Calif. The Buckeyes are tied for seventh with defending NCAA champ Arizona State and Big Ten foe Michigan State.

Leading the event after the first round of the 54-hole event is Southern California at even-par 284. Jennifer Song of USC is atop of individual leaderboard along with Duke’s Lindy Duncan with rounds of 4-under 67.

Buckeye freshman Rachel Rohanna started the event with a steady performance by making par on her first 15 holes. Starting on No. 10, her only hiccups were bogeys on holes 6 and 9 en route to a 73 to sit in a tie for 12th place.

Also stringing together several consecutive pars was senior captain Emma Jandel. She had 10 in a row, including her final nine holes, after a rough start with bogeys on four of her first seven holes. Jandel is tied for 21st with her 74.

Junior In Hong Lim and freshman Susana Benavides opened with rounds of 76 and 77, respectively, to tie for 34th and 39th. Rounding out the Ohio State lineup was sophomore Vicky Villanueva with an 80 to tie for 60th.

Two Buckeyes also are competing as individuals. Rookie Amy Meier opened with an 80 while sophomore Nara Shin carded an 84.

Round two of the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge will begin with an 8:30 shotgun start Tuesday. Live scoring is available on
