Final Stats

Kelsey Mitchell, Ohio State senior

On the emotions that come with senior day

“We had a great win, and when you have a good win on top of senior day, it’s always positive emotions. It still hasn’t hit me that we’re leaving and never playing here again, but it will. Believe that.”

On the biggest difference between this game and the last time OSU played Perdue

I think for me it was that “it” factor. Just being confident no matter the highs or lows, and I feel like last time I was really immature in regards to when things got tough, I folded. I think that with our team experiencing more losses, watching film and improving, it really made the difference.”

Stephanie Mavunga, Ohio State senior

On how the team executed defensively

We were talking, communicating, and everything was really gelling. We were all helping each other out and we did a great job of playing for each other.”

On how the team played for each other

“For me, they helped calm me down and just told me to focus on the next play. There was a point where I missed two lay-ups and they helped keep me focused. We pumped each other up and just the enthusiasm helped our execution.”

Kevin McGuff, Ohio State head coach

On the team playing harder than usual

“We had a sense of urgency, great effort, and I feel like we played hard for the entire game.”

On these seniors being a class that be brought in instead of being there already when he came in

“These are obviously an incredible group of young women. It really hasn’t settled in yet that this is their last year because hopefully we have a lot of games left to play, but there will be a time to reminisce about all that they’ve accomplished.”

Sharon Versyp, Purdue Head Coach

On today’s game

“I thought our team played really well today. It’s always going to be difficult playing Ohio State, even on their senior day. They have a special group of seniors.”

On what changed in the third quarter to shift the momentum

“We didn’t take care of the basketball and then our offense was disjointed. There were turnovers that we normally don’t make and they were able to make easy lay-ups, so they got the tempo. We controlled it for almost three quarters, but then they got the tempo going. That wasn’t good for us at all.”

On dealing with the press early on

“I think the first half was fine. I thought that in the second half, they got after it a little bit further in the backcourt, so I thought the second half bothered us a little more than the first half. When they press like that, you have to handle it.”
