COLUMBUS, Ohio – Berta Queralt and Paula Pitarque, members of the Ohio State field hockey team, earned bronze medals for Spain’s Under-21 Junior National Team at the 2010 EuroHockey Junior Nations Championship July 31 in Lille, France. In the bronze medal game, Spain defeated defending European Junior champion Germany, 2-1 in overtime.
En route to the bronze medal, Spain went 2-2 overall with wins against Scotland (4-1) and Belarus (3-0). The team overcame a 3-0 loss to Germany July 25 in the opening match of the tournament before downing the defending champions in the medal round in the lone overtime win of the championship.
Queralt, Pitarque and the rest of the Buckeyes will open the 2010 season at Ohio at 1 p.m. Aug. 31. Stay tuned to OhioStateBuckeyes.com for more field hockey action coming this fall.
