Buckeyes in the NBA

Mike Conley (6’1”-PG-87, graduated ’07, currently in the NBA) was the major contributor in an Utah Jazz’s victory against the Golden State Warriors (5-14) 113-109 in the NBA on Friday night. He scored 27 points, grabbed 4 rebounds and dished 4 assists in 31 minutes. The Utah Jazz has a solid 11-7 record this season. It’s Conley’s first year with the team and he averages 14.3ppg, 3.4rpg and 4.7apg in 18 games.


D’Angelo Russell (6’5”-SG-96, graduated ’15, currently in the NBA) has been sidelined for the past two weeks with a right thumb injury. Russell is expected to return soon after practicing this week without any protection on his thumb.

Prior to the injury, Russell was off to a strong start in his first year with the Warriors. Russell is averaging 24.3 ppg, 3.6 rpg, and 6.7 apg.

Off the court, Russell has made the news by becoming the new face of Li-Ning’s Way of Wade brand. Russell will be taking the main stage beside Dwyane Wade.

Evan Turner (6’7”-G/F) Atlanta Hawks  – In Turner’s first season with the Hawks, he is currently averaging 4ppg, 2.1 rpg, and 1.9 apg.


Keita Bates-Diop (6’7”-F-96, graduated ’18, currently in the NBA), who plays in the NBA was not able to secure a victory for the Minnesota Timberwolves (10-8) in their last game on Saturday. Despite Bates-Diop’s very good performance, the Minnesota Timberwolves were edged 100-98 in Phoenix by the Suns. He was the second best scorer with 22 points. Bates-Diop also added 4 rebounds. Bates-Diop has relatively good stats this season at 8.9ppg and 2.7rpg.

DeShaun Thomas (6’7”-PF-91, graduated ’13, plays pro in Greece) led Panathinaikos to an easy victory against the ninth-ranked Iraklis (3-5) crushing them 130-81 in the Greek A1 in Monday night’s game. He scored 16 points in a mere 18 minutes. Panathinaikos Superfoods Athens (9-0) is in first in the A1. So far his team won all nine games in the Regular Season. Thomas has relatively good stats this year with 13.3ppg, 2.9rpg and 1.4apg in the eight games he played so far.

David Lighty (6’6”-F/G-88, graduated ’11, plays in France) could not help ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket (5-5) in their last game on Friday. Despite his very good performance ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket was badly defeated 88-72 on the road by the leading Fenerbahce. Lighty was the top scorer with 18 points. He also added 4 rebounds. This year Lighty averages 9.1ppg, 2.0rpg and 2.1apg.

Byron Mullens (7’0”-C-89, graduated ’09, plays pro in South Korea) was not able to help KT Sonicboom (7-9) in their last game on Thursday. Despite Mullens’ very good performance KT Sonicboom was defeated 87-70 at home by the second-ranked DB Promy. He recorded a double-double by scoring 27 points and getting 15 rebounds. Mullens also added 2 blocks. This season Mullens has very high stats. He averages 15.8ppg, 8.3rpg, 1.1apg and 1.3bpg.


Jae’Sean Tate (6’4”-F-95, graduated ’18, plays in Australia) led Sydney Kings to a victory against the closely-ranked Melbourne Phoenix (5-5) 90-86 in the Australian NBL last Saturday. Tate scored 24 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in 30 minutes; quite an impressive performance considering it’s only his second season in pro basketball. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Sydney Kings (10-1) are placed first in the NBL. It was his team’s fourth consecutive victory in a row. Tate has very impressive stats this year with 15.8ppg, 6.2rpg and 1.9apg in 11 games.

Amedeo Della Valle (6’4”-SG-93, graduated ’14, plays pro in Italy) contributed to an AX Armani Exchange Milano’s victory against the closely-ranked Sassari 90-78 in the Italian Serie A in Sunday night’s game. He recorded 12 points (made all of his five free throws) in only a mere 13 minutes. This year Della Valle averages 6 ppg and 1.5rpg in eight games.

Othello Hunter (6’8”-C-86, graduated ’08, plays in Israel) couldn’t help Maccabi T-A in their game against FC Barcelona in the Euroleague. He recorded 7 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. His team was crushed by 23 points 96-73. This season Hunter averages 8.8ppg and 6.0rpg.

C.J. Jackson (6’1”-PG-96, graduated ’19, currently in Sweden) contributed to a Koping Stars’ victory against Djurgarden 74-64 in the Swedish Basketligan on Friday night. He recorded 19 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists (made all of his six free throws) in 33 minutes. Jackson has very impressive stats this year with 18.5ppg, 6.8rpg, 6.5apg and 1.8spg in 11 games.

Evan Ravenel (6’9”-C/F-89, graduated ’13, plays pro in Argentina) couldn’t help Quimsa (7-1) in their last game on Wednesday. Despite Ravenel’s good performance the league leader Quimsa was badly defeated101-85in Cordoba by the much lower-ranked Instituto (#11). He scored 14 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Ravenel has relatively good stats this season with 10.2ppg, 3.6rpg and 1.4apg.
