In the NHL

Mike Bales is the goaltending coach for the Carolina Hurricanes, who fell in the Eastern Conference Final series to Boston, with the series ending Thursday. He is in his second year with the Canes and was in the same  role with Pittsburgh when they won two Stanley Cups.

In the AHL

Matthew Weis and Nick Schilkey are both in action in the American Hockey League Calder Cup conference finals, with their series beginning this weekend.

Weis and the Chicago Wolves beat the Iowa Wild, including Buckeye alum Matt Bartkowski, 4-2 in the division finals, closing out the series Monday. The Wolves take on the San Diego Gulls in the Western Conference finals, with games one and two in Chicago this Friday and Saturday. Weis has a 2-2-4 line through 11 playoff games.

Schilkey and the Charlotte Checkers swept their division final series with Hershey, 4-0, and they take on the Toronto Marlies in the Eastern Conference finals. Games one and two are in Charlotte Friday and Saturday. In eight playoff games, Schilkey has four assists.

In the ECHL

Chris Crane and Sam Jardine both have advanced to the ECHL conference finals and their teams hold 2-1 leads heading into the weekend.

Crane and the Toledo Walleye are in the Western Conference finals vs. the Tulsa Oilers. The teams play in Tulsa this weekend, with game four Friday and game five Saturday. Through 14 playoff games, Crane has a goal and six assists for seven points.

In the Eastern Conference finals, Sam Jardine and the Newfoundland Growlers lead the Florida Everblades, 2-1. Game four is Friday, with game five Saturday, on the Growlers’ home ice. In the playoffs, Jardine leads the Newfoundland defensemen with five assists and six points through 15 games.
