COLUMBUS, Ohio  Nichelle Prince, a rising senior on the Ohio State women’s soccer team, has been named to Canada’s 2016 CONCACAF Women’s Olympic Qualifying roster, national team head coach John Herdman announced Tuesday.

The team is looking to earn a spot at the 2016 Olympic Games and opens its Group B qualifying campaign against Guyana at BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston, Texas. Canada, ranked 11th in the world, also squares off against Trinidad and Tobago Feb. 14 and Guatemala Feb. 16.

“I’m very excited and honored to be representing my country at CONCACAF,” Prince said. “I look forward to make a presence on the field in Houston and having the opportunity to qualify for the upcoming Olympics. I’m grateful that throughout this journey I have had the support from my teammates and coaches at Ohio State.”

Prince, one of seven players 20 years old or younger named to the team, tied for the Buckeyes’ team lead with six goals and seven assists and helped Ohio State to an NCAA Sweet 16 appearance as a junior in 2015. The Ajax, Ontario, native who has appeared in 53 career games for the Buckeyes, will enter her senior seasons tied for 11th on the Ohio State career goals list with 22 and ninth on the Buckeyes’ career points list with 59.

Prince, who was 15 when she first appeared in a match with the Canadian youth program and was 17 when she made her debut for Canada’s full national team, has made seven appearances with the national team. After earning her first cap at the Four Nation’s Women’s Tournament in China in January 2013, Prince has gone on to tally three goals in addition to starting a pair of matches at the Torneio Internacional de Natal this past December.

“It’s been a long process,” Prince added. “There have been a lot of training sessions and a long camp but to see your name on the roster is a big relief and a lot of excitement.”
