Ohio State is set for its first exhibition game as it hosts the defending DII national champion Ashland this Sunday, Oct. 29 at 2:00 p.m. at the Schottenstein Center.


  • The Buckeyes are coming off a season that saw them go 28-7 and win their 15th Big Ten Championship.
  • OSU returns nine letterwinners and boasts a roster of eight upperclassmen.
  • The Buckeyes were picked to win the Big Ten this season by both the media and the conference’s head coaches.
  • Kelsey Mitchell returns as the team’s leading scorer. She averaged 22.6 ppg last season and made 115 three-pointers. She was named the Big Ten’s Player of the Year and earned her third All-American honor.
  • Last year, in her first as a Buckeye, Stephanie Mavunga became just the third player in school history to average a double-double for an entire season, scoring 11.4 points and grabbed 10.8 rebounds per game.
  • Mavunga and Mitchell were both named to the preseason All-Big Ten Team.


  • Ashland was the NCAA DII National Champion last season.
  • The Eagles only loss last year came at the hands of the Buckeyes in an exhibition game as they were 37-0 in 2016-17.
  • Last season, Ashland scored a Division II women’s hoops-record 3,456 points (93.4 ppg)
  • The Eagles enter the 2017-18 with the longest winning streak (37 games) of any basketball team, men or women, at any level of the NCAA.
  • Senior forward Laina Snyder is the SmallCollegeHoops.com Division II women’s national preseason Player of the Year, and Snyder and senior forward Andi Daugherty were chosen as the two Division II women’s preseason All-Americans from the Midwest region.
