Setting the Scene

  • Ohio State has tied its longest win streak of the season at five and will look to keep rolling when it hosts Penn State in a mid-week tilt on Wednesday.
  • Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. from Value City Arena.
  • Ohio State’s offense put up 95 points in a 95-75 victory last Sunday over visiting Nebraska.
  • The Buckeyes, who have scored 88 or more points in their last three games, come into the game second in the conference at 9-1 and 19-5 overall.
  • Penn State has won three of its last four games and is 14-7 overall and 4-5 in the conference. The Nittany Lions are coming off an 82-66 win over Illinois last Sunday in State College.

Noting The Buckeyes

  • The Buckeyes have matched their longest win streak of the season at five and are 19-5 on the season and 9-1 in Big Ten play.
  • Ohio State is ranked 14th in both the AP poll and coaches poll.
  • Ohio State has had six games this year in which every player on the bench that dressed for the game scored at least two points including two games in which all 12 players scored.
  • The Buckeyes went three-straight games without scoring more than 75 points but in each of their last three games, the Buckeyes have scored 88 or more.
  • After scoring a school-record 86.0 ppg last season, the Buckeyes are fifth in the country in scoring at 86.8 ppg.
  • The Buckeyes have grabbed 50 or more rebounds in nine games this season — the most since the 1981-82 season — and are second in the country with 1,067 rebounds.
  • OSU scored 87 or more points in the first four Big Ten games this season which game them a school-record streak of eight straight games dating back to last season.
  • Stephanie Mavunga leads the Big Ten and is eighth in the country in rebounding at 11.3 rebounds per game.
  • Mavunga has recorded a team-best nine double-doubles this season.
  • Kelsey Mitchell has scored 2,309 career points and has moved into third all-time in OSU history and eighth all-time in Big Ten history in scoring.
  • Mitchell has scored 22 or more points in each of the last four games.
  • Mitchell is also the school’s all-time three-point leader with 331 career three-pointers and is just three three-pointers away from moving into fourth all-time in Big Ten history.
  • Mitchell leads the Big Ten and is sixth in the country in scoring at 22.8 ppg.


Noting Penn State

  • Penn State started Big Ten playing losing four of its first five games. Since then, the Nittany Lions have won three of their last four and come in with a 4-5 mark in the conference.
  • All four of PSU’s conference wins have come at home as it is 4-1 at home and 0-4 on the road in conference play.
  • Overall, Penn State has a record of 14-7 and owns wins over Tennessee and Pitt.
  • PSU is coming off an 82-66 win at home over Illilnois last Sunday. It was a game in which four Nittany Lions scored in double-figures and PUS shot 31 free throws.
  • Teniya Page leads the team at 18.5 ppg and also has 75 assists and is shooting voer 45 percent from long distance.
  • Lindsey Spann is also averaging in double-figures at 11.3 ppg.
  • The Nittany Lions are second in the Big Ten in three-point percentage, making over 35 percent of their shots from long range as a team. At the same time, they also lead the conference in three-point defense, holding opponents to under 30 percent from deep.


Series History vs. Penn State

  • Wednesday’s matchup will be the 62nd meeting all-time between Ohio State and Penn State.
  • Penn State is the only Big Ten teams that Ohio State has a losing record against as the Nittany Lions lead the all-time series 36-25.
  • After losing five-straight from 2012-14, the Buckeyes have won four-straight in the series, including a 77-63 at State College in last year’s only meeting between the teams.
  • The teams have met in the B1G Tournament in three out of the last six years with Ohio State winning twice.
  • The Buckeyes’ best streak came from 2005 to 2011 when OSU won 13 of the 14 meetings.
  • Ohio State is just 8-18 all-time in State College and has tightened the series at home, trailing just 13-10.


McGuff vs. Penn State

  • Head coach Kevin McGuff is 5-3 all-time against Penn State.
  • He is 4-2 against the Nittany Lions as head coach at Ohio State. He split a home-and-home series with Penn State while coaching at Xavier.
  • The McGuff led Musketeers dropped a 73-66 decision in overtime at Penn State in 2006 and then topped PSU 72-68 in Cincinnati in 2007.


Last Year vs. Penn State

  • It wasn’t the prettiest game the Buckeyes had played all year but they made enough plays in the fourth quarter to pull out a 77-63 victory at Penn State on Feb. 14.
  • Ameryst Alston hit eight 3-pointers and finished with 26 points as the Buckeyes won their ninth straight.
  • The eight three-pointers were one shy of OSU’s single-game record.
  • Alston also grabbed six rebounds and had four assists
  • Kelsey Mitchell added 17 points and Alexa Hart chipped in 12 points and 14 rebounds.
  • The Nittany Lions led by one at the end of the first and the Buckeyes shot just 36 percent in the first half.
  • OSU bounced-back to shoot 48 percent in the second half and sealed the win by going 10-of-11 from the foul line after halftime.
  • Shayla Cooper made her lone three-point attempt in the game
  • Asia Doss recorded a career-high five steals in the game to go along with four assists.
  • Ohio State had 11 steals in the game.
  • The Buckeyes won the battle on the boards 41-30.
  • Ohio State tied a season-high with 20 turnovers and shot just 41 percent which was the lowest percentage since Nov. 27, 2015.
