COLUMBUS, Ohio – College wrestling’s sweetheart, Gary Traub, carries a 20-6 overall record into the 2020 Big Ten Championships and is coming off arguably his biggest win of the season, a legitimizing 5-4 decision over 13th-ranked Seth Nevills inside a packed Bryce Jordan Center. The Buckeye phenomenon was ranked 17th nationally by FloWrestling at the end of Ohio State’s regular season.
Traub has a flair for the dramatic, accentuated when competing in front of the Buckeye faithful. He secured multiple wins in the final seconds of regulation or overtime on the raised stage in the Covelli Center before taking the ‘Gas Tank Show’ on the road to Happy Valley for the regular season finale.
He opened the year winning five of six bouts to place third at the Michigan State Open. Traub then got the starting nod for the Stanford dual, igniting the ‘Gas Tank’ legend. Individual titles at the Storm Open and Cleveland State Open were sandwiched around another crowd-erupting dual victory over Cornell, all resulting in a 13-match winning streak for the Cincinnati native.
Traub emerged from the B1G dual gauntlet with a winning record to prove he was no fluke, going 5-4 in conference match-ups. In total, he has garnered bonus points on eight occasions this season (five pins, two major decisions and a tech fall).
