Thad Matta, Ohio State head coach
On B.J. Mullens
“He’s growing into it and keeps getting better. The main thing has been his consistency. He is getting better with his post ups and finishes. Tonight he was very active defensively.”

On Kyle Madsen
“Kyle is a guy who gives us everything he’s got every time he is out there. We need to continue to hammer home that we need guys to play to the best of their abilities when they are in.”

On the different lineups
“There are certain things we are looking for from each lineup. Nothing really stuck out from any of them tonight, but the guys gave us a great effort.”

B.J. Mullens, freshman center
On adjusting to the college game
“It’s definitely getting easier as time goes on.  I want to thank my teammates for making all of those outside shots tonight to help open up the middle.  That really helped my game tonight.”

On UNC Asheville’s Sean Hobbs
“He’s definitely a lot better than he was in the eighth grade, the last time I played him.  He’s a lot bigger and stronger than I remembered.”

On improvements the team must make
“Well we need to really work on rebounding, especially for Saturday’s game.  West Virginia is one of the top rebounding teams in the country, so we will really have to put work in on that during practice.

William Buford, freshman guard
On his first start
“It really was no different than coming off the bench.  I always come out with the mindset to win.  It was no different today.”

Evan Turner, sophomore guard
On what the team learned from the game
“Tonight we really did a good job of coming out and getting off to a good start in the first half.  We had really started out slow the first couple of games, but we came out with the mentality to attack tonight.  Once we got rolling it (the lead) was like a snowman- it just kept growing.”

On the team’s versatility
“We have the ability to go big or small.  Our teams has so much talent and depth that no matter who we put out on the floor, we can make thing happen”

On Saturday’s game against West Virginia
“It’s just another game, another day of basketball.  It will be a big game for us, but it will be for them as well.  Two good teams are just going to duke it out- we have come out ready to go like we did tonight.”

Eddie Biedenbach, UNC Asheville Head Coach
On playing at Ohio State
“I like coming up to Columbus and I appreciate Thad for the opportunity to play against a very good basketball team. The Big Ten is a strong conference and Thad does a great job with that team. I have good friends up here and Columbus is a great town and Ohio State makes it a great college town. There a lot of good things happening up here.”

On game against Ohio State
“Their zone defense is very good and tonight was a good game for us. I was surprise with the big guys for Ohio State and I thought they were different once I saw them in person tonight. We didn’t have an inside presence like they did and Ohio State was very consistent with their game plan and have a lot of talent on the court.”

On Ohio State’s big men
“I thought Mullens was more mobile in person and had a lot of range inside. We needed to have more movement inside and checkout outside more. Both Lauderdale and Mullens have exceptional arm lengths and I think Mullens is going to be a real good one for this team. I thought Lauderdale was more physical inside, but both these players can improve a lot by the time the Big Ten tournament begins.”
