Thad Matta, Ohio State head coach
On Micah Potter’s injury during tip off impacting the team
“At first I was thinking ‘what the heck just happened.’ But I think the guys did a great job of sticking to what we planned to do tonight defensively. The execution was really good at times offensively. During halftime we told our guys to build our system, keep building our system.”

On getting the win tonight
“I wanted to have a game like this. Just from the standpoint of wanting to play like this for once. I told the guys on Saturday after the game, ‘let’s see what we are made of.’ The last two days have been hard on them. And we have a quick turnaround to get ready for Thursday. I just like the focus that we had in sticking to the details.”

Trevor Thompson, Ohio State forward
On how coming into the game so early affected you tonight
“It didn’t. I know my job and I know what I have to do. Like I always said, I just want to win. I’m going to do anything it takes to get a W in the win column.”

On how the win affects the momentum going forward
Today we really played together and we had fun. We were focusing on just coming to this game and just enjoying ourselves and playing for each other. I definitely feel like we took a good step forward and are continuing to get better. Its good momentum for the game on Thursday.”

Kam Williams, Ohio State guard
On how it felt shooting well tonight
“It felt really good. It was real fun being out there. It’s one of the best feelings in the world to get your mojo back. I just thank god and he blessed me with this game.”

On slowing down one of the highest-scoring players in the country with good defense
“Well, we knew coming in they were a very high powered offense team. They average like 79 points a game. We just wanted to continue what we do every game and continue with our defensive system. Just to stay solid. When we get into gambling and doing things that are uncharacteristic to our system. We start shooting ourselves in the foot and we have to stop doing that. We just have to stay solid and play Ohio Stat defense for forty minutes. I feel like when we have the ability to do that we will be fine.”

Jerry Slocum, Youngstown State head coach
On the game
“It was an ugly game on our part. We obviously didn’t shoot the ball very well. We’re disappointed in our effort because we are a team who is usually pretty good offensively. I have to give Ohio State credit too, though. I told our team before the game that this is one of the better Ohio State defensive teams that I’ve seen since I’ve been here. But we certainly didn’t help ourselves and it was a poor performance on our part.”

On Ohio State’s defense
“They are very good defensively, especially if they get back and make you play a half-court ballgame. Then they are way above good in terms of how they can guard you in the half court.”
