POSTGAME QUOTES Ohio State 72 (11-7, 1-4 B1G), Michigan State 67 (12-7, 4-2 B1G) Jan. 15, 2017 Value City Arena – Columbus, Ohio Attendance: 17,449   Thad Matta, Ohio State head coach On the importance of the win
“There’s no question about it, we needed this one. When we got back from Madison Thursday I told the guys that you have to stand for something in life. I wanted to see how we would respond this Sunday and I thought we did a good job.”   On Trevor Thompson attempting 12 shots in the contest “There were plays we ran for him during the game. We added some wrinkles to get him the ball, and I thought that he did a nice job. He rebounded the ball well in there and it was good to see him bounce back.”   Marc Loving, Ohio State senior forward On fighting back after Michigan State’s hot start shooting the ball “We talked about playing through adversity the whole week. Our practices were really hard and in certain situations we had to play through adversity in practice. We were trying to have good reps in those situations to carry over to the game and I think it helped.”   On was anything different for you today on a personal level “No, not necessarily. We just took pride in our scouting report before the game. We felt like there was nothing we didn’t know going into the game. There was no unknowns. It was our job to get to the spot and if you didn’t get to the spot it was problem. I just wanted to make the right reads and make the right plays in the right moments.”   JaQuan Lyle, Ohio State sophomore guard On how this win feels “It’s a good feeling. We haven’t won since December 22nd. It’s a wonderful and it’s a great start like Marc said. We just have to keep fighting for the rest of the Big Ten season. Tonight, we showed we can play through adversity and compete. That’s what we are going to have to do throughout the rest of the Big Ten season.”   On if the team can build off this win “Yeah, definitely. Overall I think it was a great win for us and we have no choice but to build off it. I feel these past four games have been the lowest of lows for us and only way to go now is up. We have to keep each other accountable and keep pushing each other every day. It will all come together.”   Tom Izzo, Michigan State head coach On his team’s performance in the second half “We made some baskets and we missed some baskets down there. We just did not cover them well and they hit some shots.”   On Ohio State’s performance after the Wisconsin game “I did think that they would play hard. They had all of those offensive rebounds and that’s what happens when your back’s against the wall.”
