Thad Matta, Ohio State head coach
On motivating the team
“During the timeout we challenged the guys to compete harder. I hope we continue to learn lessons. We found a way to win the basketball game. Although, it wasn’t pretty at times. Hopefully we can find that channel and stop channel surfing on a regular basis.”

On the play of JaQuan Lyle
“I had a one on one conversation with him at half time tonight. I give him credit for responding. He had very good control of what he was doing and he gave off positive energy that was helpful to us.”

Marc Loving, Junior forward
On finding a way to come back
“We just needed some type of spark. We were able to get the tempo going and then had some key turnovers.”

On pulling together as a team
“We just kept telling one another that the shots were going to fall. We had faith in one another. We were never going to quit. We didn’t feel at any point in the game it was unreachable for us to tie the game up and take the lead.”

Trevor Thompson, Sophomore forward
On changing the momentum of the game
“We just had to stay confident. Us diving on the floors and getting the jump balls. The little plays started igniting us. And after that it changed everything.”

Chris Collins, Northwestern head coach
On allowing Ohio State back into the game
“They did a really good job of getting into their press in the second half and we had some critical turnovers and it sped us up a little bit. There were also two turnovers that led to breakaways which got them to one.”

On facing the Buckeye press
“We knew they had that in their repertoire so we prepared for it but preparing for their length, and size, and game pressure with the crowd is different than doing it in practice.”

On the differences between both halves
“I thought they did a better job on the glass and cleaning the boards. They’re a big team, they’re a long team and a good rebounding team. 12 is still a good number but give them credit, they ratcheted up their energy.”
