Thad Matta, Ohio State head coach
On tonight’s game
“I thought we played really well. My challenge to the team was to start off with high intensity and we were able to force a couple of turnovers, but in the second half we let our guard down a bit.”

On the team’s balanced scoring
“Coming into the game I knew we could get a lot of good shot opportunities. Our opponents really liked to clog the middle, but with this team it was basically pick your poison.”

On Jordan Sibert’s performance
“Jordan and the team got exhausted at the end there, but defensively he was pretty good and was very active on defense.”

Jordan Sibert, freshman guard
On playing hard after a win against Florida Tuesday night
“It all started in practice. We knew we couldn’t come out and have a letdown game. I think we came out and showed who we are as a team but we all still have room to grow.”

On the freshmen
“It’s all a learning experience for us at this point. It takes time for us to grow, but I give credit to the older guys on the team. They have the confidence in us to leave us on the court and let us show what we can do.”

On the team’s depth
“We have a lot of depth, which is always a plus. We play extremely unselfishly and that makes it hard to stop us as a team. Any night can be anybody’s night to score. As long as we keep playing unselfishly, we should have a great season.”

Deshaun Thomas, freshman forward
On what he has learned so far this season
“The coaches have told me to be patient and not rush shots. They stress playing defense and to just go out there and play hard and think about the plays.”

On his performance against Florida compared to UNCW
“It started in practice. I came out kind of sluggish against Florida, but the team was hitting shots and I was learning while watching them on the court. I worked hard in practice since then and came out tonight and played well.”

Buzz Peterson, UNC-Wilmington head coach
On the game
“I am responsible for losses. We have played three games in five days. We were getting knocked off our cuts. Ohio State is pretty physical and different than what we’ve seen. I was trying to get our guys to compete as hard as we could. We won’t face teams like that the rest of our season.”
On Ohio State
“This could be a good season for them. I’ve seen a lot of basketball teams and they are good. They have lots of guys that can score and a lot of weapons. They are a very deep team and I really like them.”
On keeping his team’s confidence level high
“We want to stay focused on ourselves. I told the team not to worry about the score, worry about the process. We have another game Tuesday and we have to have our confidence for it. The staff’s job is to help the team keep its confidence high.”
