Thad Matta, Ohio State head coach
On his team’s play
“I thought we played hard tonight. Maryland is a heck of a basketball team. They did a tremendous job of finding open guys and they really shoot the ball well. I thought we executed better offensively tonight. We had a better flow and pace to us. Give them credit. As I told our guys we played better, but we didn’t play well enough. We have to continue to climb the stairs of success.”

On the play of C.J. Jackson and Andre Wesson
“We rode them down the stretch. They did a really nice job. C.J. was really disruptive with the ball screens. We went small at the end. We were trying to be a little bit more disruptive with them. I think those two guys are playing really good basketball right now.”

Marc Loving, Ohio State senior forward
On what Maryland did to pull out the victory
“You have to give credit to them. They made plays when they needed to. Their ball-screen offense was really efficient tonight. They made us respect the long closeouts and put us in tough positions defensively.”

Jae’Sean Tate, Ohio State junior forward
On what it takes to capitalize late in games
“I think that at those certain times we have to believe that we have another gear. You have to have even more of a sense of urgency. You have to want it a little more than the other team. At times, we did not do that.”

Mark Turgeon, Maryland head coach
On Melo Trimble’s play at the end of the game
“We got him some rest, like two minutes and then a media timeout. He’s been so outstanding at the end of games in his three years here. I just told him that it was his game and then got out of his way.”

On Ohio State
“They are an incredibly talented team. Jae’Sean Tate is a tough matchup, Trevor Thompson is a tough match-up. Marc Loving is a tough match-up. It’s a tough league though as you can tell. They’re getting a lot better though and you saw that tonight.”
