Thad Matta, Ohio State head coach
On Purdue tying with 4 ½ minutes remaining
“I just said not to panic. Purdue is a good team and they had a great game. They shot early. We just needed to keep composure which we did down the stretch. There was still a lot of time left.”

On Ohio State
“We weren’t has sharp as we needed. That’s the hard part as a coach knowing the right thing to say, right thing to do. It is a valuable lesson for them from the stand point of consistently being ready. We talked about that a lot. We are in a unique position this year. Last year we were climbing up and this year people are trying to knock us off. That takes a special toughness every time we are on the court.”

Jamar Butler, Junior Guard
On his mindset in the huddle when they were behind late in the game
“I tried to keep the team calm. I knew all we had to do was get on a run and we would be fine.”

On Ohio State’s defense
“Our defense changed the game. I think we ended on a 17-5 run. It was one of those games when it took a while to get going.”

Mike Conely Jr., Freshman Guard
On his mindset when Ohio State was behind in the game
“We didn’t panic. We buckled down on defense and got stops. We turned those stops into buckets at the other end.

On playing when Greg Oden is on the bench
“When he (Oden) is on the bench, the game changes. We have more guards who can shoot when he’s out there. Most of our offense goes through him.”

On breaking down opposing defenses
“I’m getting more confident on getting to the rim. I like to read what defenses bring me. I like adjusting to what they do.”

Greg Oden, Freshman Center
On foul trouble
“I haven’t fouled out of a game this year. I’m getting used to being held and fouled all the time.”

Matt Painter, Purdue Head Coach
On the game
“We had some shots not go down and some careless turnovers. They got fouled in the bonus and when we got fouled in the bonus, we didn’t have a chance to steal points. When Greg Oden comes back into the game, you don’t have a chance to knock down points. We just didn’t make plays today. Ohio State made more plays down they stretch. That is why they won.”

On the team’s progress
“I think we came here ready to play. We have been ready to go in the last three games. With a young, inexperienced team, you can either go north or south in February. I feel that with our effort and preparation, we are going north. We out-rebounded our last few opponents. We just have to take care of the basketball now.”

On pressuring Greg Oden
“Obviously it helps any team to put Oden on the bench. But Hunter and Terwilliger are still very good basketball players behind him. The objective is just to get somebody else shooting.”
