Ohio State has won the last 52 games in Columbus vs. unranked opponents, 48 of which have been played at Value City Arena. The Buckeyes own wins vs. Youngstown State (11/24/06/Nationwide Arena) and VMI (11/25/07), California (3/24/08) and Delaware State (11/20/08) at St. John Arena. Nationwide is located in downtown Columbus and is the home of the Columbus Blue Jackets. St. John Arena is the former home of the Buckeyes (1957-98).

Ohio State has not lost in Columbus as a ranked team to an unranked non-conference opponent since a 76-67 setback to South Alabama Dec. 16, 1980, a span of 39 games. The Buckeyes were ranked No. 7 in that game.

Thad Matta improved his career record to 214-66 in his ninth season as a head coach …  He is 112-35 in his fifth year at Ohio State … Matta has started the season 7-0 in two seasons at Ohio State (2005-06, 2008-09).

Ohio State is 40-3 at VCA when ranked among the AP Top 25. The Buckeyes have won the last 27 games at VCA as a Top 25 team.

Jeremie Simmons was recognized and presented with his junior college national championship ring during a pregame ceremony. Simmons spent two seasons with Mott Community College where he was named MVP of the NJCAA national tournament last year and led Mott to back-to-back Division II national titles.

David Lighty made his 51st start at Ohio State vs. Jacksonville.

Seven different players have scored in double figures at least once this season. Evan Turner leads the team with six games, while David Lighty has tallied 10 or more points in four games and Diebler has three games.

Lighty tied his career best in points with a game-high 21 points. Lighty went 7-of-8 from the field and 5-of-7 from the charity line … He also tallied four assists, seven rebounds and three steals

Ohio State went on an 18-2 run from 18:21 (down 0-4) to 12:25 in the first half to make the score 18-6. Lighty contributed seven points in the run.

Nine of Ohio State’s first 18 points were off four Jacksonville turnovers … the Buckeyes made eight of their first 12 shots (67 percent).

With a 3-point basket in the first half, Jeremie Simmons continued his streak of a made 3-pointer in every game this season. Simmons also went 2-for-4 from 3-range and is now 12-for-34 on the year.

With a 45-34 halftime lead, the Buckeyes led at the half for the sixth time in seven games. Ohio State is now 6-0 when leading at the half this season.

Five Buckeyes knocked down a 3-point basket, marking the first time since the 2008 NIT title game against Massachusetts April 3, 2008 … Simmons, Turner, Lighty, Diebler and Buford each scored from behind the arc in tonight’s match-up.

Four players scored double figures in tonight’s game, the first since the NIT championship game last season vs. Massachusetts and the first time the squad recorded 10 3-point baskets (10-of-16).

Simmons posted a season-high 10 points.

Ohio State is 3-0 this season and 74-8 under Matta when scoring 70 or more points.
