With the win, head coach Luke Fickell recorded his first victory over a ranked opponent.The Buckeyes are 4-1 this season when leading at the half. With winsnaps a two-game losing skid and avoids the program’s first 0-3start to the Big Ten since 2004.


Ohio State leads the all-time series with Illinois, 63-30-4,and 34-12-0 in Champaign. They retain the coveted Illibuck Trophyfor the fourth consecutive year. Ohio State has not lost inChampaign since 1991. Ohio State has now won three in a row againstIllinois and 6 of the last 7 meetings.


Daniel “Boom” Herron started the game on offense in his firstgame back this season. His first carry on the second play fromscrimmage went for a first down. He finished the game with 114yards on 23 carries and one TD. It marked the fourth 100-yardrushing game of his career. Herron has rushed for 320 yards and 5TDs in four career games vs. Illinois. Herron has now scored a TDin 13 consecutive games. Herron is the second among active Big Tenplayers in rushing with 2,308 yards, trailing UM’s Denard Robinson(2,896). He also is second in rushing TD’s with 30, behind UW’sMonte Ball (36). The Buckeyes are now 19-1 when Herron rushes forat least 55 yards and 21-3 when he scores a rushing touchdown.Jake Stoneburner caught a 17-yard TD pass from Braxton Miller in the fourth quarter, the eighth of his careerand now moves into a tie for fifth place on OSU’s all-time list forTD catches by a tight end. Ohio State went 2-of-2 in the red zoneagainst Illinois and is now 18 of 21 on the season. The only threetimes Ohio State has failed to score inside the red zone was on afumble and on two end-of-game possessions to run out the clockagainst Akron and Colorado.


Ohio State held Illinois scoreless in the first half for thefirst time this season. Illinois came in averaging 447 yards oftotal offense and was held to 285 today. Ohio State forced Illinoisto punt on all five possessions in the first half. Bradley Roby intercepted his third pass of the season in thethird quarter, setting up Ohio State’s first touchdown. Roby alsorecorded his first career fumble recovery in the fourth quarter ona Tyler Moeller forced fumble on UI’s A.J. Jenkins. Johnathan Hankins had a career-high nine tackles and tied acareer best with 2.0 TFL. John Simon finished the game with 2.0 sacks and 4.0 TFL, themost by a Buckeye since 2007. The 4.0 TFL also is tied for secondbest on OSU’s all-time single-game list. Simon also had acareer-best eight tackles. Travis Howard intercepted his third career pass and his firstof the season in the fourth quarter.


DrewBasil finished 1-for-1 on FGs (43-yarder) and has now madeeight in a row on the season. Ben Buchanan punted seven times, dropping two inside the 20. Henow has a Big Ten leading 17 punts inside the 20 this season.
