Eastern Illinois Head Coach Rick Samuels
“I thought the changing defenses upset our offensive rhythm. We didn’t adjust well. I thought the key stat was rebounding. We have to do a better job on the boards if we want to win. It has been a problem for us, we aren’t as physical as we need to be.
“We are struggling to find a good combination on offense to give us a good flow. Our perimeter guys have to step up.”
Ohio State Head Coach Jim O’Brien
“We shot a lot of free throws (the past couple of days in practice) that’s for sure. I am not sure if we did any better today, but we took a lot of them. We made 20-something (28) and they took only 13, you would think we would be up by 25.
“We played sloppy. The reason we didn’t win by more was the turnovers. It is a glaring problem we need to improve on. It is a huge concern for us.”
“This win does a lot for our mentality after two losses. Now we are going to focus on rebounding, especially on offense and continue to shoot more free throws in practice.
“Brian Brown played a great game, like a true point guard. He made shots and hit his free throws and distributed the ball well.”
“It feels good to get back on a winning track. We feel good to have a win. We wanted to come out and make a statement in the first half, we got on the glass and knocked down some free throws. Our shooting is coming along. We have been going to the basket hard and driving the floor. “We wanted to come out and win the first five minutes of the second half. I tip my hat to them because they never gave up, but we stepped it up and got the win.”
“We came out and played hard tonight. Anybody who watched the last game knows we didn’t rebound to well. We were stressing rebounding in practice and knew we had to come out and hit the glass hard.
“We never settle for anything but the best. We are happy with the win but we know we didn’t play our best basketball. We have a lot of things to work on but our progress is coming along very well.”
