Thad Matta, Ohio State head coach
On OSU’s defense Friday
“The defense really locked in the second half and did a much better job tonight. Going from 43 to 26 really was a big difference from the first half.”

On rebounding
“We are doing better. Having 47 three’s is a completely different animal in rebounding. They come off the wall. This is not were we wanted to exactly be, but we are getting better.

Mike Conley Jr., Ohio State freshman guard
On assists to turnover ratio
“It was definitely a good chance tonight especially with them pressing. It caused a lot of turnovers and I only had two. This speaks a lot for what I was doing with controlling the ball.”

On fatigue in the game
“We were a little fatigued at times. When you are tired and they are pressing, you might not make the right decisions and that is what we did. We did a better job the second half getting different guys in which helped.”

Daequan Cook, Ohio State freshman guard
On tonight’s game
“I was comfortable tonight and just let the game come to me. I talked with Coach Matta about it and he said just let it come to me and play. I did that today.”

“The game was real fun. Coach said to go out and have fun before the game and it was. We all came together, had fun and played together.”

Duggar Baucom, VMI head coach
On Ohio State’s basketball program
“They have got a great program and lots of great players. They are definitely as good as advertised.”

On OSU pulling away
“I thought they were much better than us down the stretch. We were close at halftime, but we couldn’t keep up. Thad has got a stable full of horses here.”

On Ohio State’s play on the day
“We had to work really hard for every shot we got. They started to play that physical Big Ten basketball and pulled away form us.”
