Recap| Box Score| Notes

Minnesota head coach Dan Monson
“We were both shorthanded tonight. They handled the adversity a lot better than we did. I think we settled for a lot of three’s when we should have been going inside more. In the second half, we did a better job of getting inside, but we lost this game tonight on the defensive end. We gave up too many baskets. Jernigan hit some big-time shots for them. We didn’t do that great of a job getting out on him. When you’re on the road, you can’t play even with the opposing team, you have to get out and take the lead.”

Ohio State head coach Jim O’Brien
On the effort of Jernigan and Marinchick:
“First and foremost we have to give tremendous credit to Matt Marinchick and Emonte Jernigan. I really appreciate guys who do not play a whole lot and stay with it. I keep telling my players that they have to be ready when the opportunity presents itself. In some cases it may not but tonight it did. Also, we definitely found something out about Marinchick; we will have to see about getting him a few more minutes. He is a good guy and good things happen to good guys,”

On injuries:
“The message to my players has to be to positive and upbeat. The keyword is ‘believe’, and they have to believe they can do this and that they can go out there and get it done. All of my players have a lot of character and heart and they played hard tonight, as they have all year.”

On Minnesota’s style of play:
“It seems to be that teams want to shoot a lot of threes against our zone defense. Over the past two games, seventy-two threes have been attempted and that is a lot. If teams want to approach us this way, we will have to deal with it. I am fearful of teams shooting that many threes. If either Northwestern or Minnesota made a couple more, who knows how things would have turned out. We may have dodged a bullet tonight.” Sophomore center Matt Marinchick
“It feels good to get the win tonight. It’s a natural high. Emonte (Jernigan) really stepped it up for us. I had to do this for (Velimir Radinovic). Everyone needs to do their part. I had to get open down low and get the shots. It’s definitely a must -win situation.”

Junior guard Emonte Jernigan
“I knew (this game) would be an opportunity to step up. My teammates have a lot of confidence in me and gave me the ball. I haven’t played a lot lately so it was a good chance to sneak up on (Minnesota).

“It felt good to start hitting the three’s. I had to get in there and play my game. It was a big win and it gets us back in contention.”

Senior guard Brent Darby
“He (Emonte Jernigan) did a great job and knocked down some shots. It’s big to have another guy come in and score. I didn’t shoot the ball well tonight. Matt (Marinchick) also came in and played well and helped us get the win.”
