Recap| Box Score

Jim O’Brien, Ohio State head coach
On his strained vocal cords
“Through the surgery that I had received on my back during the offseason, my vocal chords have been damaged so my activities have been limited, but I still have been very involved with every practice. I have watched every film from practice and I still have played a major role in practice.”

“Our coaching staff and especially our players have been extremely supportive. They have been very attentive through practices and tonight’s game.”

On Ohio State’s starting five
“We seem to be a lot quicker with Fuss-Cheatham at the point, but we also have a large advantage with our big guys up front. With Fuss we have somebody who can get up and down the floor and with Velimir and Terence we have an advantage in size.”

On the play of J.J. Sullinger
“J.J. is physically mature. He did extremely well defensively and he is a great shooter. He gives us an element we did not have last season.”

On the Coaches vs. Cancer team
“That is a good team. They are tough to guard and they gave us some tough match-ups. They shoot over fifty percent and they can put a lot of points on the board.”

Terence Dials, sophomore forward
On the overall impression of the game
“Our offense played good and moved the ball very well. We had five players that scored in double figures. We know J.J. (Sullinger) and Tony (Stockman) can play. On the defensive side of things, we need to step up a little more. Even though we scored 95, we did give up 87.” On getting back on the court
“I was really excited to get back into things and playing with these guys. My back felt really good and did not give me any problems, I am definitely ready to start this season.”

Tony Stockman, junior guard:
On teammate J.J. Sullinger
“I think J.J. shot very well and played some good defense. He did an excellent job of getting on the boards and making big rebounds. He plays hard and creates opportunities for our team.

On his overall play
“I felt really good, the position I play now is different than the position I am used to playing. I do feel very comfortable in my new role. The only thing I need to adjust is when to shoot and when not to shoot.”

Junior forward Matt Sylvester:
On this year’s team:
“We have a very quick team. We have quick guards and our big guys can get out and run.”

On the team’s offense:
“Our offense is great because we have 2 quick point guards in Tony and Brandon, they can kick to me for a three or two J.J. for a slash.”

J.J. Sullinger, sophomore guard
On his return to the court after a year off
“It was a great feeling. It was a dream come true. I have wanted to be a Buckeye since I was 7-years old.”

On his scoring tonight
“The buckets were falling early, and that gives me confidence and my teammates were finding me.”

On the crowd
“Our fans are second to none. We know they give great support and we think they are the best in the country.”

On the team’s defense
“We have a lot to improve on our defense in order to be as good as we want to be.”
