COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Big Ten Conference announced Jessica Porvasnik as the Big Ten Women’s Golfer of the Week on Wednesday (Sept. 21). Porvasnik seized medalist honors during stroke play at the East & West Match Play Challenge before going 2-0 in her individual matches.
Porvasnik posted back-to-back rounds of 69 to seize individual medalist honors during the 36-hole qualifying stroke play. Her top spot lifted Ohio State to the No. 1 seed for match play in an event that included three other Big Ten schools. Porvasnik’s 6-under 138 cleared all non-Buckeyes by four shots and was three shots better than the runner-up, Ohio State’s Jaclyn Lee. The good times continued to roll for Porvasnik when match play began, manifesting in a pair of individual match victories, going 2-0, as the Buckeyes claimed third place in the event. She defeated Oregon’s Petra Salko, 2&1, and Jordan Chael of Kentucky, 1UP in 19 holes.
Porvasnik has now earned Big Ten Golfer of the Week accolades in each of her four collegiate seasons. This also marks her second B1G weekly award following the East & West Match Play Challenge, receiving the recognition in 2014 as well after finishing as the stroke play runner-up and winning both individual matches.
