COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 25 Pittsburgh Panthers grabbed the early momentum and rode it all the way to victory in defeating Ohio State, 22-9, this afternoon in St. John Arena.

After the Buckeyes took the early lead behind Matt Fratta’s (Sr., Willard, Ohio) overtime tiebreak victory, the Panthers beat up Ohio State where OSU is at its strongest – the lighter weight classes. Pittsburgh’s Shawn Amistade started the run when he defeated Robert Sessley (So., Columbus, Ohio), 6-2. After wins at 141, 149 and 157, Pittsburgh’s lead was 13-3. The Buckeyes cause was made more difficult because of a knee injury Keaton Anderson (Fr., Pickerington, Ohio) suffered this week in practice. Anderson was held out of the lineup and is hopeful of returning next week against No. 3 Iowa.

Bright spots for Ohio State included Bo James (So., Akron, Ohio) and Peter Rogers (Jr., Sheboygan, Wis.). James appears to have regained his form after suffering a wrist injury in early December. He defeated Pittsburgh’s Kevin Johnson, 8-2. Rogers, currently ranked No. 17, hung on to defeat Brian Pardini, 2-1. The win was Rogers sixth in his last seven matches.

Ohio State next travels to Ashland, Ohio, to compete in the Wendy’s Classic tomorrow. They return home Friday, January 22, to take on the four-time defending national champion Iowa Hawkeye wrestling team, ranked No. 3 in the nation.
