COLUMBUS, Ohio – Peter Kobelt, a senior on the No. 2 Ohio State men’s tennis team, was named Big Ten Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday. The weekly award is his third of the season and fourth of his Buckeye career.

Kobelt, who is ranked ninth in the country in singles, posted his 10th win against a nationally-ranked opponent last week, defeating No. 25 Nathan Pasha 7-6 (8-6), 6-2 in a 4-3 loss at Georgia March 12 in Athens. The native of New Albany, Ohio, Kobelt is 18-5 overall with an 11-1 mark in dual play. He has won his last six singles matches and seven of his last eight in 2014.

The No. 2 Buckeyes host Michigan at 6 p.m. Friday in Columbus at the Varsity Tennis Center. A win over the Wolverines would extend Ohio State’s home win streak to 184-consecutive matches, tying the NCAA all-time home win streak record in any varsity sport. As always, admission is free.
