No. 14 Ohio State vs. No. 9 Grand Canyon and George Mason

COLUMBUS, Ohio – No. 14 Ohio State (1-1) makes its first road trip of the season this weekend at the 2023 Patriot Invitational in Fairfax, Virginia. The Buckeyes face No. 9 Grand Canyon (2-0) at 5 p.m. Saturday before meeting host George Mason at 3 p.m. Sunday. The match vs. the Patriots will be streamed on ESPN+.

Ohio State opens the 2023 Patriot Invitational vs. No. 9 Grand Canyon (2-0) at 5 p.m. Saturday at The RAC on the George Mason University campus in Fairfax, Virginia. The Buckeyes and Patriots then face off at 3 p.m. Sunday. George Mason will be the host of the 2023 NCAA Championships. The Ohio State vs. George Mason match will be streamed by ESPN+.
The Buckeyes are 16-2 all-time vs. Grand Canyon and are on a five-match win streak against the Antelopes. In matches against George Mason, Ohio State has a record of 32-26. The Buckeyes are 16-1 in the last 17 matches.
The Buckeyes opened the 2023 season vs. Central State and No. 4 Penn State last week. Ohio State is 3-0 vs. the Marauders after a 3-1 win in the season opener. The Buckeyes are 48-82-1 vs. the Nittany Lions all-time following a 3-1 loss to PSU.
Samuel Clark was named the first Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Offensive Player of the Week Tuesday after leading the Buckeyes with 26 kills in the opening two games of the season. He hit .400 for the weekend and led with 31.5 points.
Clark and junior Jacob Pasteur were named to the 2023 Preseason All-MIVA squad. Pasteur led Ohio State a year ago in sets played (104), kills (417), total attacks (808) and aces (38). He was second in total blocks with 59.
Clark played in 103 sets in 2022 with 377 kills, 796 attacks, 35 aces and 42 blocks.
The Buckeyes will play in a couple in-season events this year, both away from Columbus. George Mason, the host institution for the 2023 NCAA Championships, will host the Patriot Invitational Jan. 14-15. The Buckeyes will face Grand Canyon and George Mason in the event. The annual Pac 12/Big Ten Challenge will take place in State College, Pa. with Ohio State taking on USC Feb. 2 and UCLA Feb. 4 at Rec Hall on the Penn State campus.
The MIVA regular season gets underway Feb. 9 with McKendree traveling to the Covelli Center for the league opener.
The Buckeyes were picked to finish third in the preseason MIVA poll with 53 points. Ball State led with 56 ahead of Loyola Chicago with 54.
