Pat Elflein One of Five Semifinalists for Outland Trophy

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State senior center Pat Elflein is one of five semifinalists for the prestigious Outland Trophy, which honors the nation’s outstanding interior lineman. The Football Writers Association of America revealed the names of the five finalists Wednesday evening.

Elflein, a team captain with a commanding presence on the offensive line, is also one of 20 players under consideration for the Lombardi Award and he is on the watch list for the Rimington Trophy.

A mid-season All-American on six different teams, including,,, The Sporting News and on both FOX Sports lists produced by Bruce Feldman and Stewart Mandel, Elflein is the center of attention on Ohio State’ young offensive line. He, fellow All-America candidate Billy Price, and three first-year starters have paved the way for a dynamic and balanced Ohio State offense.

This season, Ohio State’s offense is:

  • 2nd nationally in scoring at 46.5 ppg
  • 10th nationally and 1st in the B1G in rushing at 267.0 ypg
  • 11th nationally & 1st in the B1G in total offense at 511.4 ypg
  • 16th nationally & 1st in the B1G in passing efficiency at 152.42
  • T4th nationally and 1st in the B1G ten in fewest interceptions (4)
  • 8th nationally & 1st in the B1G in yards per carry at 5.7 ypc

The five semifinalists will be whittled down to three finalists and announced on Tues., Nov. 22, during The Home Depot College Football Awards Nomination Special, starting at 3 p.m. ET on ESPNU. The winner of the 2016 Outland Trophy will be announced Thurs., Dec. 8 on The Home Depot College Football Awards on ESPN, the main show beginning at 7 p.m. ET, live from the National Football Foundation’s College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta.
