Findlay, Ohio – Sade Olatoye and Nick Demaline both earned event titles in their respective events on Saturday at the Findlay Classic. Demaline won the elite shot put with a personal best and Olatoye captured gold in the elite shot put and weight throw.
On Demaline’s second throw of the event, he launched the shot an astounding 19.04m (62-5.75) to come away victorious. His mark was a personal best and it is the fifth-longest throw in Ohio State history. His career-best throw ranks No. 7 in the NCAA and second in the Big Ten.
Olatoye had no problem competing twice in a short two-hour span. To get the afternoon started, Olatoye launched the shot 15.97m (52-4.75) to oust the rest of the field by more than half a meter. She then progressed to the weight throw where she heaved the weight apparatus 21.25m (69-8.75) for a runaway victory; the sophomore is undefeated in the weight throw in 2017.
Freshman Lyne’a Diller recorded two career bests on the day. She recorded a mark of 14.20m (46-7.25) in the shot put and a heave of 16.24m (53-3.50) in the weight throw.
A foursome of other athletes recorded personal records during the day as well. Grace Azenabor (16.77m – 55-0.25) and Kate Deaton (18.84m (61-9.75) both recorded personal bests in the weight throw, Alexis Dowdy’s personal best in the shot put is now 12.80m (42-0.00) and Reggie Browley collected a career-long throw of 15.98m (52-5.25) in the weight throw.
Browley also picked up a second-place showing in the shot put with a mark of 15.94m (52-3.75).
The Ohio State track and field team will split their squad next weekend between the Armory Invite (New York, N.Y.) and Meyo Invite (South Bend, Ind.).
