Olatoye Breaks Fourth School Record


COLUMBUS, Ohio – Day one of the 34th annual Jesse Owens Classic has come to a conclusion. Today’s action included the men’s and women’s hammer throw, javelin, 1500m run and 5000m run. The Buckeyes ended day one with seven medals, five new personal bests and a new school record. Day two of the Jesse Owens Classic is scheduled to start at 10:30 a.m. ET with the women’s shot and men’s discus. Running events will start at noon with the women’s 4x100m relay.

How it Happened


Senior Kate Deaton placed second in the open section of the women’s hammer throw. Her longest heave being 59.19m and a new personal best.

Sarah Stanley, a dominate javelin thrower for the Buckeyes, took home third with a best distance of 45.95m. On the men’s side of the same event, Dan Mastropaolo threw a season best distance of 59.00m.


Senior distance specialist, Luke Landis placed third in the 1500m run with a time of 3:50.00. Freshman Nick Miller closer behind as he clocked in a time of 3:51.10s to take fourth.

Freshman hammer thrower, Garrett Doyle registered a new personal best distance of 59.97m to take home the gold.
