COLUMBUS, Ohio – Steven Moneke, a member of the Ohio State men’s tennis team, advanced to the championship match of the 2006 ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships Saturday. The tournament is being held at the Racquet Club of Columbus. Play will conclude Sunday.

Moneke (So., Alten-Busick, Germany), who has yet to lose a set in four matches this weekend, defeated Stephan Bass of Notre Dame 7-5, 6-3 to book a spot in the championship match of the event. Moneke improved his singles record to 15-2 on the year and has won ten-consecutive matches. Moneke will be playing in his second consecutive tournament championship. He claimed the 2006 ITA Midwest Regional Championship Oct. 24 in Minneapolis, Minn. Moneke will face the defending champion and the No. 1 seeded Ben Kohlloeffel of UCLA Sunday at noon.

Ohio State will be going for its fourth-consecutive title at the ITA National Indoor Championships. Jeremy Wurtzman started the streak when he claimed the 2003 singles title and Ross Green and Scott Wilson won back-to-back doubles titles in 2004-05. Green and Wilson are the only doubles pair to win the event in back-to-back seasons. No program has ever won a title four straight years at these championships.
