Columbus, Ohio – Jessica Davenport and Brandie Hoskins, both juniors on the Ohio State women’s basketball team, earned two of the final 12 roster spots for the 2005 World University Games Team in an announced made by USA Basketball Monday. The pair of All-Big Ten honorees was named to the squad after competing in final tryouts Thursday through Sunday. They will remain in Colorado Springs for training sessions through Aug. 4 and will travel with the team to play in Izmir, Turkey Aug. 6-19. The first scheduled game for Team USA is Aug. 10 vs. the Czech Republic.
Kathy Delaney-Smith, from Harvard, is the head coach for the 2005 USA Basketball World University Games Team. Pokey Chatman, head coach at LSU, and Cathy Inglese, head coach of Boston College, will handle the assistant coaching duties.
Ohio State and LSU are the only two collegiate teams to have two representatives on the University Games roster. Seimone Augustus, the 2005 Wade Trophy winner, and teammate Sylvia Fowles were the two Lady Tigers to make the squad.
Davenport, a 2005 Wade Trophy finalists and first-team Kodak All-American, is the reigning Big Ten player of the year after tying for the lead league in scoring at 19.3 points per game and pulling down 9.3 rebounds per contest. Hoskins was third-team All-Big Ten and gained a spot on the league’s all-tournament team. She finished the season with an average of 13.2 points per outing and led the Buckeyes in assists with 135.
