LINCOLN, Neb. – The Ohio State women’s volleyball team’s 2019 campaign came to a close after a straight-set loss (25-15, 25-16, 25-19) to No. 6 Nebraska on Saturday night at the Devaney Center. The Buckeyes finished the season at 15-17 overall and 8-12 in the Big Ten while the Cornhuskers improved to 25-4 and 17-3 in league contests.
Gabby Gonzales tallied 10 kills for her 14th time in double figures this year. Elle Sandbothe registered seven kills and three blocks while Mac Podraza chipped in 20 assists, nine digs, three rejections and three kills. Kylie Murr added 18 digs, three assists and a service ace. Becca Mauer contributed seven assists and five digs.
SET 1: The Buckeyes needed a timeout as they trailed 11-7 to start the match. Ohio State responded with three points, which cut the lead to one and forced a Nebraska timeout. The Huskers closed the set on a 13-4 run for a 25-15 triumph.
SET 2: Nebraska doubled up at the 10-5 mark to send Ohio State to its bench. Two kills by Sandbothe capped off a 6-1 sprint in the Buckeyes’ favor but it was not enough as the Huskers took the set, 25-16.
SET 3: Ohio State capitalized on Nebraska’s miscues to take an 11-8 advantage. Five straight points put the Huskers ahead 13-11 but the Buckeyes battled back with a 4-1 run that gave them a 15-14 edge. Nebraska scored 11 of the last 15 points for a 25-19 victory.
