COLUMBUS, Ohio – Members of the Ohio State fencing team wrapped up competition at the North American Cup C tournament in Dallas, Texas, Monday.

Eight of the 17 participants from Ohio State logged Top 25 finishes at the event. Sabreist Max Stearns and epeeist Caroline Piasecka led the way for the Buckeyes. Both claimed medals as they tied for bronze in their respective weapon categories.

Igor Tolkachev barely missed the Top 5 in epee, finishing at sixth. Teammate Eric Gurnowski provided another Top 25 mark for the Buckeyes (25th) in epee.

The Douglas brothers showed their skill in sabre, with Ewan and Rhys claiming 24th and 26th, respectively.

In women’s sabre, Margarita Tschomakova landed at 18th, followed closely by Emily Cheng at 22nd. Allison Henvick and Oksana Dmytruk claimed 25th and 28th, respectively.

The Buckeyes are back in action on the strips Jan. 22 and 23 for back-to-back competitions in New York, N.Y. Ohio State will compete as a team in the NYU Invitational Jan. 22 before dueling at the St. John’s Duals Jan. 23.

The team then wraps up January with a trip to the Notre Dame Duals Jan. 29-30.
