COLUMBUS, Ohio – The 10th-ranked Ohio State women’s golf team will compete in the 2005 NCAA East Regional May 5-7 in Gainesville, Fla., the NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Committee announced Monday. The event will be held at the par 70 University of Florida Golf Course (5,773 yards) in Gainesville, Fla. The Buckeyes earned the No. 4 seed in the regional, fresh off their fourth-consecutive Big Ten championship.

Twenty-one teams and three individuals are set to compete in the east regional, including seven squads who rank in the Top 25 in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin performance index. The Top 8 teams and two individuals not on one of the Top 8 advancing teams from each of the three regionals will move on to compete in the 2005 NCAA Championships May 17-20 in Sunriver Ore.

“I am most happy about the fact that we have played this course several times,” Therese Hession, Ohio State head coach, said. “We have played it well the last couple of times. Last year we finished second at the Lady Gator Invitational and this year we were fourth. It is the kind of course where you really need to manage yourself well, and I think our players can do that. We are excited to get going.”

The east regional will include 18 holes each day, beginning with first-round action Thursday, May 5. Tee times begin at 7:30 a.m.
