COLUMBUS, Ohio – After a busy week with four matches in the past five days, the No. 3 Ohio State Buckeyes can finally get a moment of rest after finishing their match against the Toledo Rockets. Earlier in the season, the Buckeyes swept the Rockets, and the result didn’t change in today’s rematch. The Scarlet and Gray are now on a ten-game win streak and three-game sweep streak. They are currently 22-2 on the year and 13-0 at home. The Rockets fall to 3-14 on the season.
Doubles went quickly and smoothly for the Buckeyes. First to win was Joseph Thomas and JJ Wolf with a 6-1 win. Clinching was Matt Mendez and Hunter Tubert with a 6-2 victory for their 20th win of the year. Singles was pretty much the same story, as the remainder of the match took under an hour to complete. Torpegaard only dropped six games in two matches today, adding a 6-1, 6-2 win to bring the Buckeye’s lead up to two. From there, Jacob Wareti increased the margin with a victory in his first dual match of the season, winning 6-1, 6-2. Clinching was Kyle Seelig in a 6-2, 6-1 win. Joseph Thomas, Hunter Tubert and Martin Joyce were all up a set and a break at the halting of their respective matches.
No. 3 Ohio State will next face the second highest ranked Big Ten team as of now in No. 8 Illinois. It will be the most important Big Ten matchup thus far, as both teams are currently undefeated in the conference. The match is set for Saturday at Noon.
