Columbus, Ohio- The Ohio State rifle team capped off their season in dominating fashion with an outstanding performance at the WIRC Conference Championship Match. The Buckeyes swept the awards by winning both the regular season air and smallbore rifle championships as well as the conference championship match titles in both disciplines.
The Buckeyes were led by junior Amanda Luoma who won the individual WIRC conference championship in smallbore with a score of 581. Senior Maxwell Snyderman followed up Luoma by placing third and finished his Buckeye career on a high note, firing a personal best 576.
Remington Lyman capped off his freshman campaign by firing a solid 572, while fellow freshman Alexander Kimura fired a personal best 571 and sophomore Greg Hagar a 554 to round out the team scoring for the Buckeyes. Ohio States’ total score of 2300 was their second highest of the season, falling just short of their season best 2304 from last weekend.
In air rifle the Buckeyes were again led by Luoma who claimed individual conference championship honors by firing an impressive 396. Kimura fired a personal best 390 to place third overall, while Lyman (389), Snyderman (384) and Hagar (379) rounded out a great performance in air rifle by the Buckeyes.
Ohio State was well represented in the WIRC All-Conference Awards. In smallbore Luoma, Snyderman and Lyman earned First Team All-Conference honors. Senior Walter Riker finished out his Buckeye career by earning Second Team All-Conference.
In air rifle, Ohio State earned four of the five First Team All-Conference honors with Luoma, Snyderman, Lyman and Kimura all earning recognition. Sophmore Megan Polonsky earned Second Team All-Conference honors as well as senior Robert Mangaudis III.
Luoma will represent the Buckeyes as an individual competitor at the NCAA Rifle Championships held at Ohio State March 8-9. Luoma will be part of the field of 48 competitors vying for both the air and smallbore rifle NCAA Individual National Championships.
