WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Ohio State Pistol team traveled east to face Army West Point for their third match of the season. The Buckeyes were victorious with an Open team score of 6,596 to 6,446, while the Women’s score was not contested. Ohio State registered higher team total in all three disciplines.
Ohio State – 6,596 (2,258 air | 2,229 sport | 2,109 standard)
Army West Point – 6,446 (2,176 air | 2,182 sport | 2,088 standard)
The air pistol team of Katelyn Abeln, Samuel Gens, Shrenik Jain and Con Marrinan set a new school record by shooting a 2,258. Abeln also broke the individual Women’s record for air pistol with her score of 569.
Several Buckeyes also set new personal bests including Cade Haiby (535 standard; 555 air; 1,650 3-gun aggregate), Marrinan (548 sport) and Bernard Melus (552 sport; 1,621 3-gun aggregate 1,621).
The Buckeyes took first through fourth place in Air Pistol. Haiby came in first in Sport Pistol and third in Standard Pistol. Gens placed second in both Sport Pistol and Air Pistol. In addition, Abeln took first, with her record breaking score, in Air Pistol.
The team is back in action next weekend as they head to Colorado Springs, Colo., to compete in the Rocky Mountain Invitational.
