COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio State University men’s golf team is one of 15 squads competing in the Boilermaker Invitational (April 15-16), contested on one of six host sites for the NCAA Regionals in mid-May. This marks the 14th edition of the Boilermaker Invitational, an event Ohio State has played in each season since 2013-14.
The Buckeyes will play alongside `that school up north’ and Wisconsin for the first 36 holes.

Ohio State will run out an all-underclassmen lineup this week consisting of three sophomores and two freshmen:

STEADY EFFORT NABS WETTERICH A TOP-10 FINISH AT IRISH CREEK INTERCOLLEGIATE
Daniel Wetterich closed out the 2017 Irish Creek Intercollegiate carding a 1-under 70, posting no rounds worse than even par throughout the competition (71-70-70). His 2-under total garnered a share of 10th place among 93 players, marking the second Top-10 performance of Wetterich’s first season as a Buckeye
COMING IN HOT AT THE LINGER LONGER INVITATIONAL
While Will Grimmer grabbed the headline on his 5-under 67 in the Linger Longer Invitational’s final round, Jeg Coughlin III and Daniel Wetterich put together Ohio State’s top 54-hole performances and each grabbed a share of 19th place among 84 total players.
OHIO STATE JOLTS INTO TOP-5 ON SUPERB FINAL DAY IN PUERTO RICO
The Buckeyes secured their second Top-5 finish of the season the last time out, blitzing through the Puerto Rico Classic’s final round (Feb. 21) at 4-under par (284). Ohio State leapt three opponents during the last 18 holes to place fifth in a 15-team field which included 11 schools ranked inside the Golfstat Top-50.
OREWILER KILLS IT AT BIG TEN MATCH PLAY CHAMPIONSHIP
Caden Orewiler not only posted a perfect 3-0 individual record at the Big Ten Match Play Championship, but did so in dominating fashion. He opened the event with back-to-back 6&5 victories before registering a 5&3 triumph in Ohio State’s win over Indiana. The Buckeyes won two of three matches overall in the competition.
ENGLE CLOSES OUT THE FALL SEASON IN TOP-15 AT QUAIL VALLEY INTERCOLLEGIATE
Senior Clark Engle recorded the 14th Top-25 individual finish of his career to conclude 2016, earning a share of 15th place in the 75-player Quail Valley Intercollegiate (Oct. 24-25). He tallied a 4-under 212 and dropped in 13 birdies to lead the Buckeye effort.
GRIMMER LEADS THE WAY
For the third time in as many tournaments, Will Grimmer placed as the highest Buckeye finisher at the Nike Golf Collegiate Invitational (Oct. 2-4). He stormed up the leaderboard on the event’s final day, leaping 24 slots into a share of 14th place on the strength of a 2-under 79.
CINCINNATITIANS SHINE IN THE QUEEN CITY
Cincinnati natives Will Grimmer and Daniel Wetterich carried Ohio State to a runner-up showing in the Bearcat Invitational (Sept. 26-27) hosted in their hometown. Grimmer cleared the field by four strokes to claim individual medalist honors. His first career collegiate title also triggered Big Ten Golfer of the Week distinction on Sept. 28. Wetterich joined Grimmer in the Top-10, picking up a share of 10th place in the 60-player field.
Grimmer became the 47th different Buckeye to earn medalist accolades since 1974. The OSU group of tournament champions has totaled 125 titles in the last 42 years.
GRIMMER RECORDS SOLID EFFORT AT THE CARMEL CUP
Will Grimmer closed out The Carmel Cup (Sept. 2-4) by dropping in six birdies in each of the final two rounds, posting subsequent scores of 68-69 to climb up into a share of 14th place overall. The sophomore placed higher than four Golfstat Top-100 players and his 13 total birdies ranked 13th in the entire field.
YEAR TWO OF THE MOSELEY ERA
Head coach Jay Moseley is in his second season handling the reins of Buckeye Men’s Golf. He, along with assistant coach Brad Smith, mentored a pair of All-Midwest Region honorees a season ago and coached since-graduated senior Tee-k Kelly to the first NCAA Regional individual title in program history and a subsequent trip to the NCAA Championships.
FRESH SEASON, FRESH FACES
The 2016-17 campaign brings three new players to the Ohio State roster, and all three made an immediate splash earning slots in the first Buckeye lineup on the season. Freshmen Caden Orewiler and Jeg Coughlin III, along with sophomore transfer Daniel Wetterich, were among the six student-athletes donning Scarlet & Gray out west in The Carmel Cup (Sept. 2-4).
All three are native Buckeyes hailing from the great state of Ohio. Coughlin captured an Ohio high school individual state title while Orewiler picked up First Team All-Ohio laurels. Wetterich played for Xavier University as a freshman in 2015-16 and was named both the BIG EAST Freshman of the Year and a member of the All-BIG EAST First Team.
COLUMBUS HOSTING 2018 NCAA REGIONAL
The Ohio State University is one of six host sites for the 2018 NCAA Men’s Golf Regionals. The three-day event will be played on the OSU Golf Club’s Scarlet Course from May 14-16, 2018.
