COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State welcomes seven schools to McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion Saturday to participate in the North Regional Championships. The Buckeyes will compete against Michigan, Lindenwood, Minnesota, Carleton College, Colorado State, Miami University and Ball State in the event. The event will begin at 2 p.m.

Ohio State has dominated this regional championship, winning the title the past 22 years since its inception. The Buckeyes look to continue their reign and collect their 23rd-consecutive title in this year’s event. 

Paige Ramsey, Lauren Nicholson and Chelsea Aton will represent the Buckeyes in the trio event, while Ramsey and Yuliya Maryanko will compete in the duet. Maryanko is slated to perform her solo routine for the Buckeyes. The Scarlet Squad and Gray Squad will each perform during the team routine competition.


The Buckeyes and the Ohio State Department of Athletics would like to recognize members of the 2013 senior class – Kayley Colville, Colleen Courtmanche, Caitlin Hoffman, Katie LaBounty, Jenny Mann and Paige Ramsey. During the past four seasons, this group has helped Ohio State win three consecutive U.S. Collegiate National Championship titles and two U.S. Senior Championships.   


Behind a sweep in all four events, Ohio State scored 90 points en route to beating four programs at the Boston University Invitational Feb. 23-24.

Aton, Nicholson and Ramsey earned an 85.750 for the top spot in the trio competition. Teammates Katie LaBountyKatie Spada and Khadija Zanotto were second (84.250).

Once again, the Scarlet and Gray captured the Top 2 places, this time in the duet competition when Yuliya Maryanko and Ramsey scored 87.500 points. The pair of Spada and Zanotto was rewarded 85.167 points following their performance.

LaBounty competed in the solo competition and earned an 83.333 for first place.

In the team routine event, the Scarlet Squad of Aton, LaBounty, Maryanko, Lauren Nicholson, Ramsey, Spada, Zanotto and Colleen Courtmanche dominated the field, collecting 87.833 points. 


At the competitive 2012 North Regional Championships, Ohio State won its 22nd championship March 3 in St. Louis, Mo.  The Buckeyes edged Lindenwood 96-95 to claim the title. Minnesota finished third with 70 points.

At the event, Ohio State captured three gold medals, four silver medals and three bronze medals.

Yuliya Maryanko posted a score of 90.250 in her solo routine to secure the gold medal. Maryanko added a silver medal alongside former Buckeye Alex Beckett in the duet competition.

The trio of Beckett, Chelsea Aton and Maryanko brought in another gold medal in the routine competition for Ohio State after scoring an 86.000. Lauren Nicholson, Lauren Robinson and Khadija Zanotto placed third in the trio competition with a score of 85.500.

Maryanko (85.126) and Colleen Courtmanche (80.785) placed first and third, respectively, in the A Figures while Julia Gaylard (68.220) picked up the silver medal in the B Figures.

The Scarlet team, comprised of Courtmanche, Robinson, Nicholson, Katie Spada, Aton,  Zanotto and Beckett, scored a 90.875 on their way to claiming the silver medal. The Gray Team (Samantha Golomb, Kristine Irwin, Katie LaBounty, Jenny Mann, Caitlin Hoffman, Lara Tutton, Gaylard and Heidi Lou) finished a little more than one point behind the Scarlet Team as their third-place finish picked up an 89.750.


The Buckeyes look to defend the program’s 28th U.S. Collegiate title at the 2013 U.S. Collegiate Championships March 20-23 in Palo Alto, Calif. The Buckeyes posted 93 points and three first-place finishes in routine events to earn the victory over the University of Incarnate Word (88) last season and 18 other teams.

Ohio State has captured the title for four-consecutive years (2009-2012) and is striving to secure its fifth-consecutive championship this season.

Following the U.S. Collegiate Championships, Ohio State is slated to compete in the U.S. Senior National Championships April 10 in Greensboro, N.C.
