Bo Hoag, Patrick Simard open with rounds of 69 to sit tied for ninth
COLUMBUS, Ohio The Ohio State men’s golf team opened the SSC Pacific Invitational with a team score of 6-under 282 to sit tied for eighth after 18 holes Monday in Stockton, Calif. The event, hosted by the University of the Pacific, is being held at the par 72, 6,720-yard Brookside Country Club. The Buckeyes are tied with Brigham Young and the two teams are nine strokes back from tournament leader Kansas State at 273.
Three Buckeyes fired rounds under par, led by freshman Bo Hoag and sophomore Patrick Simard who both carded rounds of 3-under 69 to tie for ninth. Hoag, a native of Upper Arlington, Ohio, had four birdies with only one bogey in his opening round. Simard, the No. 28-ranked golfer in the most recent Golfweek standings, recorded five birdies and two bogeys in his round. It was the seventh-consecutive round at or below par for the native of Madrid, Spain.
Rookie Brad Smith, playing in his first collegiate tournament, started his career on a strong note with a round of 71. The Peru, Ind., native concluded his round 2-under on the back nine and is tied for 32nd.
Also competing for Ohio State are seniors Zach Sebert and Kyle Coconis. Sebert recorded a 73 and is tied for 54th while Coconis had a 74 to tie for 66th.
