Columbus, Ohio- The Ohio State Pistol Team hosted the 2019 Collegiate Pistol Sections this past weekend, hosting Akron and Purdue in who both competed with less than a full team, as well as an individual from Ashland. The Buckeyes took the win in Open with a score of 6,460 (2234 air; 2087 free; 2148 standard) over Akron with a score of 5,547 (2149 air; 1416 free; 1982 standard) and Purdue with a score of 4,696 (2003 air; 890 free; 1803 standard) while competing individually in Women’s with a score of 3,161 (1555 air; 1606 sport).
Three Buckeyes set new personal bests this past weekend including Cade Haiby (506; Free Pistol, 1,587; 3-Gun Aggregate), Irene Li (531; Sport Pistol), and Anthony McCollum (1643; 3-Gun Aggregate). Additionally, the Sport Pistol team consisting of Emily Rust, Irene Li, and Emily Nothnagle shot a season-high score of 1,606.
Individual highlights from this past weekend include Anthony McCollum leading the Buckeyes in Standard Pistol (544) to claim second place behind Akron’s Brett Tucker, as well Samuel Gens (571) and Anthony McCollum (566) going first and second in Air Pistol and Emily Rust (Women’s Air Pistol; 545, Sport Pistol; 557) and Irene Li (Women’s Air Pistol; 508, Sport Pistol; 531) going first and second in Women’s Air Pistol and Sport Pistol. As a team, the Buckeyes claimed all six top places in Free Pistol led by Samuel Gens (535) and Anthony McCollum (533, season high).
Additionally, the Buckeyes competed at North Dakota State February 2nd and 3rd but were only recently able to obtain results due to a winter storm. The Buckeyes took the win in Open with a score of 6,380 (2209 air; 2035 free; 2136 standard) over North Dakota State with a score of 5,774 (2092 air; 1704 free; 1978 standard) while Women’s Team Aggregate was not contested.
The Buckeyes travel to New London, Conn. to take on Coast Guard February 23rd and 24th and then prepare for the Intercollegiate Pistol Championships March 16th through 19th.
